Review the various answers that the knight rejected (lines 101-124). Why do you think he rejected these but accepted the old woman's answer? Did the knight have some reason for believing that the old woman's answer would please the queen and other ladies?

Perhaps it was due to the fact that his previous endeavours to obtain the answer proved unfruitful; he could not get an answer to which all the women agreed to. After telling the story of Midas, the Wife returns to her tale by describing the dreadful knight, in a "dejected mood" (165). At this point he had lost all hope and was prepared to accept his fate. The convenient appearance of the old lady at this time was a desperate last resort - something he might as well have taken advantage of.

It is almost one year and a day, so the old woman's answer is the knight's last hope. The knight does not reject the old woman's answer because older woman are usually more experienced, and the old woman guaranteed that her answer will save the knight's life.

I agree. Oldness usually represent wisdom. Hence old woman's answer must have seemed more valid and reliable than that of other women.

I agree. It is his last day, and the old woman is his last chance. If he rejects her answer, there is a possibility that no one else can help him. He is in such a hurry that in this moment he will accept an answer of anyone; age doesn't matter anymore which means even he will even accept young girls' answers.

He rejected all the other women's answers because they are mostly from young women. However after traveling around for one year, the knight was absolutely helpless and he happened to bump into the old woman. He must thought she was someone sent by God, therefore he trusted her answer.

In his 1 year quest to find the truth of the story, the knight didn't accept any of the answers because there will be people who contradicts the previous answer, or someone will disagree in the same village or town. However, after 1 year, his time is up and he is very anxious to find the answer. This is when he passes the old woman's place and because the old woman is alone, there is no one to object against that answer, and perhaps his anxious mood also played a role in accepting the answer of the old woman

The knight was unable to find the right answer because he thought that the answers were not reliable. He became depressed and desperate. Thus, when he saw the old woman and heard her answer he might have thought that she was her only hope. Furthermore, it is often said that old people are wiser. Since the woman was very old and her answer was somewhat different from the others, he accepted her answer.

I think that the knight rejected the answers he received from many ladies because they were all different. Furthermore, the answers are all superficial, such as "clothes," "wealth," and "fun in bed." These materialistic answers differ from one woman to another. However, the old lady's answer is more universal. It may not be apparent to all women, but is deep underneath them.
