The green knight satirically taunts King Arthur by questioning whether the grand rumors he hears about King Arthur's court are actually true. He attempts to pick up the king's anger and competitive spirit so the king will send a worthy man to prove the green knight wrong. King Arthur's ego and honor will not allow for people going about thinking his rule is anything less than the great front his men put up for him.

I agree that the green knights motive is to make the king angry but the King was composed and did not lose his temper. I think that if King Arthur had lost his temper, his followers might think that he isn't a good leader because of how badly he reacts to a simple taunt.

I also agree that Green Knight had the potential to make Arthur angry. However, instead of reacting with anger, King Arthur welcomed the Green Knight's challenge. If I was him, I would have kicked the Green Knight out directly without any thoughts.

The Green Knight raises King Arthur's attention by questioning the bravery of the knights and the validity of the rumors he heard about King Arthur's knights. King Arthur would not want anyone think that his court is dishonorable and not as good as it seems to be, so he would need to prove to the Green Knight that the court is respectable by accepting the challenge.

Discussion Board
Assignment: Students are expected to participate in the class’ online discussion forum hosted at shrubber.weebly.com. Questions related to assigned readings will be posted by the teacher each week. Students are expected to post a minimum of one original response per week. When more than one question is posted by the instructor in a given week, students may choose to which of the questions they respond. Students are also expected to comment on at least one other student’s response to the question. Although these are the minimum requirements for the homework grade, students are encouraged to engage in further discussion with their classmates using the forum. These additional responses are OPTIONAL. However, commenting will benefit your participation grade if you did not participate during our whole-class discussion on the day when you post your comment. You DO NOT have an opportunity to make up credit lost for lateness, lack or preparation or violation of classroom/school rules.
Student posts should NOT exceed 100 words. All responses will be graded on content, organization and grammar.
